The aim was to investigate the implications of agricultural restructuring and decline for biodiversity conservation in the mountain areas of Europe, using three distinct methodological streams: the ecological,
the socio-economic, and the Sustainability Assessment approaches. The SA approach assessed the potential sustainability consequences of different European rural and agriculture policy scenarios, looking at how agri-environmental change could affect biodiversity management.
