Exploring preferable nature futures for biodiversity and climate governance in the Barotse Cultural Landscape

The main goals of the project were to develop three diverse storylines inspired by the Nature Futures Framework and Seeds of Good Anthropocenes on the diverse worldviews and plural values of biodiversity and climate actors in the Barotse Cultural Landscape of Zambia. The idea was to make visible these plural values that can provide a diversity of options of what a preferable future for people and nature can look like in an African social-ecological system that is also a cultural landscape.

The main impact was the development of three qualitative narratives that show the plural values of state biodiversity and climate actors, biodiversity and climate innovators and traditional leaders for the first time in the Barotse Cultural Landscape. This has made the values of these important stakeholders more visible and shown how these plural values can contribute to local and global climate and biodiversity commitments.
