The Ecoregion of the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (CGSM) is the most important coastal wetland complex in the Colombian Caribbean. Throughout its history, and especially in the second half of the twentieth century, the CGSM has been severely affected by various human activities that have generated profound changes in the structure and dynamics of ecosystems, with negative effects on its ability to provide essential services for the well-being of local populations. The general objective of the scenario project was to contribute to the definition of policies, strategies and priorities for the sustainability of the Cienaga Grande de Santa Marta socio-ecological system, aimed at developing a new governance model with the participation of local actors that will allow the system’s adaptive capacity to be increased and the possibility of providing services for human well-being.
