The main goal of this visioning exercise was to develop desirable narratives and visions for small-scale fisheries in Europe by engaging workshop participants in a creative, interactive, and inspiring co-creation process. In addition, the exercise aimed to help participants feel more hopeful, counteracting the sense of being overwhelmed by the crises facing small-scale fisheries, and to set the scene for the workshop sessions that followed (which were not directly related to futures co-creation). To do this, we combined several approaches and futures-related methods (Seeds of Good Anthropocenes, the Manoa Mash-Up method), along with the use of personas, in a participatory setting involving small-scale fishers and their representatives. During the workshop, an artist captured emerging ideas to develop an illustration summarizing the session, which was later shared with all participants.
