Envisioning nature-positive futures for Europe using a nexus approach

The main goal was to co-create nature futures for Europe with 26
participants representing diverse sectors and regions, resulting in three
visions underpinned by different value perspectives: Dòigh Nàdair: The
way of nature (Nature as Culture), NaturAll (Nature for Nature) and Return
to Nature (Nature for Society). The rationale for this work was that
transformative change is required to secure a liveable future for people
and nature. The Nature Futures Framework and nexus approaches
together offer useful ways of imagining plural values of nature and the
foundational role of biodiversity across the biodiversity nexus together.
So, we brought these areas of biodiversity research together to ask: what
could plural nature-positive futures for Europe in 2050 look like that
explicitly leverage synergies in the biodiversity nexus?

These visions were used to inspire transformative pathways that were co-created in two subsequent workshops with a consistent group of
participants in Schoorl, Netherlands and Teplice, Greece. These pathways identify sequences of actions that together may move to the desirable endpoints described in the visions.
