The Urban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network (UREx SRN) brought 24 stakeholders from different institutions together to jointly develop five visions for Syracuse and Central New York’s future in 2080. Some scenarios were adaptive, focusing on concerns like urban flooding and water quality, while others were transformative scenarios meant to inspire transformative change in the city and region. Participants identified goals, strategies, implementation timelines, maps, and narratives for the scenarios envisioned. Synthetic outputs as a result of the workshop include simulation models for evaluating the outcomes of specific strategies and a qualitative resilience assessment of the strategies for creating transformative change.
Expected impact: to address long-term challenges of the region and enhance its capacity for long-term resilience planning by exploring diverse policy options.
